Business Process Management (BPM) has emerged as a matured cross-functional approach which stresses a process-centered view. BPM has its roots in a number of concepts including Business Process Reengineering, Quality Management (e.g., TQM, Six Sigma), Operations Management (e.g., MRP II, CIM, Kanban), Business Process Modelling and Process-Aware Information Systems (e.g., workflow management systems, service-oriented architectures). It can be defined as a structured, coherent and consistent way of understanding, documenting, modelling, analysing, simulating, executing, measuring and continuously changing end-to-end business processes and all involved resources in light of their contribution to business improvement .
The Australian Community of Practice was established in August 2004 and is a forum of experienced BPM Practitioners. It provides an open and honest platform for the exchange of experiences and knowledge in the field of Business Process Management. It is aimed towards consolidating and enhancing the local body of BPM knowledge.
